Message from MoDOT

Blanchette BridgeIn recent years the St. Louis Region has undertaken a variety of transportation studies within the I-70 corridor to review specific modes, e.g. freight, Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), and roadway improvements. However, none of these have focused on developing a comprehensive multi-modal vision for the corridor. As the St. Louis Region looks toward the future of this important corridor, there is increasing focus on sustainable mobility, economic competitiveness, and the relationships between community characters and transportation. The I-70 corridor is critical to our region’s transportation network. MoDOT, Metro and the East-West Gateway Council of Governments have initiated a study to develop a strategic plan for the future of the I-70 corridor. Strong partnerships with and cooperation from the municipalities directly along the corridor - St. Charles County, St. Louis County, and St. Louis City - will help to implement the strategies contained in this plan to ensure a sustainable corridor well into the future.

The Envision I-70 Planning and Environmental Linkages (PEL) Study is a relatively new approach to transportation planning. This is the first time our Region has conducted such a study and is a tool to assess the current and future needs of a transportation corridor at a very high level. The end product will be the development of multi-modal strategies that are responsive to the St. Louis Region’s future needs along I-70.

Please join us as we travel down this exciting new path to transportation planning!
